Everything you want to know before your first pickup.

If you're deciding whether DonateCrate is a fit for your household, these are the questions most people want answered first.

Getting Started

How do I know if DonateCrate is available at my address?

Enter your street address in the search on our homepage. We check it against our active service zones instantly and tell you whether you can sign up now, when your area is next on our expansion list, or how to join the waitlist to help us get there faster.

What does it cost?

DonateCrate is $10 per month per household. That's it — one flat price, no hidden fees, no contracts. Cancel anytime from your account dashboard.

Is there a contract or commitment?

None at all. Month-to-month billing, cancel any time from your account dashboard. No calls, no emails, no minimum period.

What happens after I sign up?

Once your account is active, you'll be added to your neighborhood's next pickup cycle. We'll text you a reminder 72 hours before your scheduled pickup day, again 24 hours before, and once more the morning of. Confirm you're ready in the app, set your bag out, and we'll handle the rest.

Pickup Day

How often are pickups?

DonateCrate runs on a monthly pickup rhythm. Each service zone has a set pickup day each month — you'll see yours in your account dashboard. Your subscription covers every cycle, and you can cancel any time if you no longer need the service.

Do I need to be home on pickup day?

No. As long as your bag (or clearly marked box or crate) is set out in your usual spot by the start of the pickup window, you do not need to wait around. Our driver will collect it and mark your stop complete.

What time will the driver come?

We provide a service day — not a precise hour — for each monthly cycle. You'll receive a morning-of reminder text on pickup day. Place your bag out before the stated start time and it will be collected during the route.

What if I'm not ready this month?

If you don't have items ready, that's fine — just leave your bag out on the next cycle. If you no longer need the service, you can cancel any time from your account dashboard with no fee or penalty.

What if the driver misses my stop?

It's rare, but it happens. If your stop is marked as unserviceable or your bag was missed, contact us through your account and we'll make it right for the following cycle or arrange a re-pickup where possible.

Accepted Items

What can I put in the bag?

Clothing, shoes, linens, towels, blankets, and small household goods are all welcome. The main rule: if it fits in the bag and can travel safely without damaging other donations, it's a good candidate. See our full accepted items guide for category details.

Do items need to be in good condition?

Yes — gently used condition is the standard. Items should be clean, dry, and wearable or usable by someone else. We cannot accept heavily stained, torn, or wet clothing, broken household items, or anything that presents a hazard.

What about fragile items?

If an item might break inside a soft bag, place it in a sturdy box or crate instead and mark it clearly for DonateCrate. Our driver will pick it up alongside your bag.

Can I donate furniture or large appliances?

Not at this time. DonateCrate is designed for bag-friendly donations — clothing, shoes, linens, and similarly sized household goods. Large items, furniture, and appliances are outside our current service scope.

Donations & Nonprofits

Where do my donations actually go?

Every bag we collect is sorted and delivered to vetted nonprofit partners in the local area. Nothing gets resold by us, nothing goes to a landfill. Our goal is maximum reuse within the community.

Can I get a tax receipt for my donations?

Yes. Donations through our nonprofit partners may be tax-deductible. Contact us through your account to request a donation receipt for a specific pickup cycle.

Referrals & Credits

Do you have a referral program?

Yes — share your personal referral code with a friend. When they subscribe, you earn a $10 gift card credit (redeemable anytime for Amazon, Target, Venmo, and more), and they get a free reusable DonateCrate bag shipped with their first pickup. Find your code in your account settings.
