Built to make donating easier than throwing away.
DonateCrate started with a simple observation: almost everyone has items they'd love to donate, but almost no one actually gets around to it. Not because people don't care — because the trip to the donation center is just one more errand that keeps not happening. We decided to fix the logistics, not lecture people about giving.
The problem we're solving
Donated bags sit in trunks for months. Closets refill as fast as they're cleaned out. The nearest drop-off is fifteen minutes away and the hours are unpredictable. The friction is real — and the result is that perfectly reusable items end up in landfills because the path to donation was just too inconvenient.
How we think about it
The solution isn't to make donating more virtuous — it's to make it more mechanical. Like curbside recycling. If you put the right infrastructure in place and give people a clear, predictable pickup rhythm, they'll donate every single month without thinking twice. That's what DonateCrate is built to be.
Three principles that guide every decision.
Density over reach
We grow neighborhood by neighborhood, not city by city. Dense routes mean dependable pickups. We'd rather serve fewer addresses exceptionally well than spread thin and fail the ones who counted on us.
Accountability in every bag
Every item we collect has a destination: a vetted local nonprofit partner. Nothing gets resold by us, nothing disappears into an opaque sorting facility. Donors deserve to know where their items land.
Simplicity as a service
$10 a month. One pickup rhythm. Clear reminders. No complexity. We believe the best version of this service is one that requires almost no thought from the people who use it — the habit builds itself.
Local nonprofits that can actually use what you donate.
We work with established nonprofit organizations in each service area to ensure donations reach people who need them. Our partners are vetted for their capacity to receive, sort, and distribute household donations — so your bag doesn't sit in a warehouse.
As we expand to new cities, we identify partner nonprofits before launch so every first pickup has a destination ready.
Every nonprofit partner meets our criteria for capacity, accountability, and local impact before we route a single bag to them.
Donations stay in the community they came from. Knoxville donations go to Knoxville organizations — not shipped across the country.
Donations through our nonprofit partners are tax-deductible. Request a receipt for any cycle from your account dashboard.
Start donating every month without making a single trip.
